The Wayland Fire Department shares the Public Safety building with the Wayland Police Department. There are 26 part-time or on-call firefighters in the department. The department is responsible for answering alarms in the City of Wayland and Wayland Township. The department also answers alarms for mutual aid in adjoining areas as needed.
Fire Apparatus that is currently in service includes:
1910 – Fire Engine
1911 – Pumper / Tender (holds 3,000 gallons of water)
1930 – Brush Truck
1940 – Water Tender
1950 – Aerial Truck 95’
1960 – Rescue (Mobile Command Center / Technical Rescue Unit)
Squad 51 – Medical Response Unit (Chevy Tahoe)
Two Sets of Vehicle Extrication Equipment (Spreader’s, Cutter’s, Ram’s)
The Firefighters in the department are trained at the level of Firefight 1 & 2, HazMat Awareness, HazMat Operations, Cold Water/Ice Rescue, and Terrorism Basic Concepts.
The Fire Department has a very strong fire prevention program and uses the Scotty Fire Safety House to teach children fire safety. Free Alarm Installation:
Wayland Fire Department will install free smoke alarms, CO alarms, and disability alarms (upon request) in any residential home within the City of Wayland and Wayland Township. Wayland Fire Department has joined the MI Prevention statewide fire safety campaign through the State Fire Marshal, the Bureau of Fire Services and Michigan’s fire safety organizations, to provide this service free of charge to any residents.
